Devi is a PhD candidate at Dalhousie University, where her research focuses on building scalable, expert-in-the-loop computer vision pipelines for deep-sea underwater video. Her doctoral work advances marine ecosystem monitoring through machine learning — tackling challenges unique to the deep ocean: scarce labeled data, extreme class imbalance, domain shift, and previously unseen species.
Her technical expertise spans foundation models, uncertainty-aware and out-of-distribution modeling, and fish detection and species classification in low-light underwater environments. Before turning to marine AI, Devi applied deep learning to medical image analysis, bringing the same rigorous, research-driven approach to healthcare diagnostics.
At Deep Oculus, Devi leads the scientific vision — translating state-of-the-art AI research into robust tools for ocean monitoring at depth.
